Question Lists Standardization & Enhancement - FEEDBACK NEEDED :)

Dear community,

once again we need your feedback.
Our intention for the coming development iterations is to enhance and unify question lists in JavaBlackBelt.
This is not only a first step in the global effort of simplifying the great work of our moderators but also a chance to improve usability in our application.

Our vision is summarized in the following wiki page http://www.javablackbelt.com/DocumentView.wwa?page=Question+Listing+standardization

Please find the time to read the above page and come back to this thread with your feedback, new ideas, insults, outburst or whatever you have in your java-freak mind ...

Nicolas

Dear all,

I am new in the javaBlackBelt community and I would propose a change request.
It could be interesting to have a new search field in the question manager that could find our failed question.
I think it is a bit frustrating to search for previously failed question in the failed exams lists.

Thanks for your comments,

Nicolas FRANCOIS

I have several ideas here:

1) Make list columns configurable, the idea of organizing that could be taken from JIRA's issue navigator. Also idea of JIRA's custom saved filters can be utilized. Each user (moderator) selects number of columns he wants to see and saves filters (based on different criteria and also free text search) he uses often.

2) Use AJAX to load question details inside the result list. This will ensure speed when loading large lists and will also allow to improve question editing experience as editing/ voting/commenting maybe implemented in the same place as the list appears and there will not need to switch focus from the list.

3) Have "hide" button for list items. The idea is the following if user/moderator processes some list of questions he does not want to look at the questions that he has already processed. So, the "hide" button will allow him to focus on none processed questions. Also you can implement "unhide all", "unhide last hidden question", "unhide 5 last hidden questions". To make it fast you need to use AJAX.

4) Different nice features like sorting, dynamically moving of columns, subtotals of fields, multiple question selection and performing actions on the selected questions.

After all it would be good to create a prototype to see and experiment.

Best regards,
Andrey

Bread-crumb style of navigation is a must have, I currently use the question lists mostly for viewing beta questions.
I find myself constantly opening the view details in a new tab so that I don't lose my place.
I also find it unintuitive to navigate back up to the parent exam after reviewing beta questions in a particular category.

I have also noticed that the columns are often un-evenly spaced, cell sizes on different rows are different sizes within the same column.

And when are you guys going to blog or post a wiki page about the architecture that you have used - whats your technology stack.
I've had one glimpse in the blog about sitemesh, what else is in there?

Great site, fantastic idea - keep it up.
Neil.
